Stanford class tests new virtual dissection table
PALO ALTO, Calif.—Students at Stanford University are using virtual cadavers to study human anatomy.The San Jose Mercury News reports that an undergraduate class at the school is working with the cadavers on new dissection table technology it is testing this spring quarter.
The virtual table features life-sized, three-dimensional anatomical models of human bodies. Students can zoom in and remove and manipulate organs, helping to see how they connect.
Sakti Srivastava, the chief of the division of clinical anatomy at the Stanford University School of Medicine, says the table is not a replacement for a real cadaver. But it can serve as a complement.
He would like to have medical students start using it in the fall.
The table was developed by San Jose-based Anatomage.
