TCAL replies to pools challenges

Ian, Rob and Fred Paterson Greenville used the public forum to take council to task over its treatment of the burning question pools.

Tania said Ian Tauranga City Aquatics Ltd claims recorded a loss of $ 4.222 million for last fiscal year is not true.

"This loss is an accounting loss due to a financial adjustment for the tax changes," says Tania.

"In our year-end 2011 accounts has just finished, we paid rates to Tauranga City Council $ 13 334 excl GST, and the rate of water $ 111 601 HT TPS," said Tania.

"On top of that we pay TCC $ 180,000 per year for IT support and $ 10 000 in support of administration per year.

"The IT support costs have been put in place last year and we did not seek additional funding rates ITC to cover this cost."

Ian claims that Tauranga City Council staff are offered membership in a gym with a $ 249 charge for use at the pool, is also wrong, says Tania.

"As with any gym, we offer corporate memberships, as a reduction of 10 percent of the total cost, where five or more of the same company to join. This offer standard business.

"We made this offer to council staff. Apart from a few ads placed via the intranet team comms board, we do not have access to advisory systems to promote our activities such as gym to gym.

"We tried to remain impartial and board offer only the rate that we offer all other members of the public."She said Ian misunderstood the numbers on his allegations about the financial impact of the closure of the Mount Hot Pools.

Mount Hot Pools current operating surplus of $ 160 000 per month are used to fund four other pools operated by Tauranga TCAL: Memorial, Otumoetai, Greerton and Baywave.
