Art Exhibit Opens At White Plains Public Library

White Plains, NY - The White Plains Public Library is pleased to announce the opening of Sea Me! Underwater Photography by Pierrette Wagner.

Growing up on the shores of Long Island sound, Wagner developed a love of the aquatic at an early age. She taught diving for six years, and after a friend gave her a submersible camera in 1992, she started photographing the beautiful underworld of the sea. The colorful photos in the exhibit were taken in many places around the world, from Brazil to Micronesia. “Pierrette Wagner’s desire to capture stunning portraits of fish requires a passion for the sea and the knowledge of advanced photography techniques in order to create a perfect picture,” says curator Kathleen Masterson. “In order to construct her artwork, she needs to get the correct exposure, accurate focus, controlled movement of her subject and a pleasing color balance…. She skillfully calibrates all of these variables to create startling, vivid, and rare images.”

Artwork is for sale, and 20% of the proceeds will benefit the Friends of the White Plains Public Library.

This exhibit is made possible by The Friends of the White Plains Public Library with assistance from The City of White Plains.  Museum Gallery hours are 10 AM - 9 PM, Monday and Wednesday; 10 AM - 6 PM, Tuesday and Thursday, and 1 PM – 5 PM, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  The Library is located at 100 Martine Avenue, White Plains.

White Plains Library Foundation Honors 3 At Spring Gala

White Plains, NY - The White Plains Library Foundation recently held its Sixth Annual Treasures Gala: “Honoring Our Community Partners,” at the White Plains Public Library, and was proud to honor James Benerofe and The Shirley G. Benerofe Foundation; the Westchester Library System; and Westchester Community College.

The Gala was attended by 135 people, including White Plains Mayor Tom Roach and Common Council Members Ben Boykin, David Buchwald, Milagros Lecuona, Dennis Power, and Beth Smayda.  Architects Rai Fernandez and James Rowe of Bermello Ajamil also attended.

During the Gala program, Foundation President Judith Nevins said, “We are very excited to be moving forward toward making The Edge become a reality, and we have completed the first step by developing a Master Plan for the Library’s first floor that will give us a road map for the future. We are thrilled to share the Master Plan with the community, and want to thank the many Foundation donors who have provided the core funding to begin The Edge.”

Library Director Sandra Miranda presented Community Partner awards to the honorees, and said, “These honorees have done exemplary work to further the Library’s role as the community’s partner in education for people of all ages and backgrounds.  We are proud to honor them tonight, and look forward to continuing our partnerships to benefit so many people in Westchester County and White Plains.”

James Benerofe, a Board Member of the White Plains Library Foundation since its inception in 1995, was honored for his philanthropic support, individually and through The Shirley G. Benerofe Foundation.  His personal and family generosity have enhanced the Library’s educational initiatives for children, teens, and the business community, including the Library’s Center for Business, Jobs, and Nonprofits.  The Westchester Library System (WLS), a consortium of 38 member libraries in Westchester County, was honored for its leadership in effecting partnerships that advance excellent library service for the County’s more than 940,000 residents.
