Petra was born Feb. 23, 1928, in Fratt, Texas, to Pablo and Fransica (Garcia) Paderes. On Dec. 3, 1948, she married Gil Avila. They were married for 59 years. She and her husband, Gil, moved back and forth from Texas and Colorado for many years until 1958 when they settled in Colorado. Petra loved to read her Bible and listen to gospel music. Fourth of July parades were a joy to her, as well as shopping, being outdoors and traveling. Petra is survived by daughters, Maria (Larry) Kage of Fort Morgan, Agapita “Betty” Piper of Lincoln, Neb., Cindy (Juan) Chavez of Greeley, and Mary Jean (Reynel) Carmona of Fort Morgan; four sons, Robert Avila of Fort Morgan, Roy (Rosalie) Avila of Denver, Richard (Donna) Avila of Fountain, Colo., and Jesse Avila of Fort Morgan. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Rosa (Joe) Delgado of Huston; brother, Eudelio Paderes; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He proudly served in the Marines until 1982. After leaving the military, he met and married his wife, Katy. They moved to Amarillo, Texas, where he worked and attended West Texas State University (now West Texas A&M). After graduation, he took a position at Sam Houston State University in November 1993. He quickly realized Huntsville was his HOME. Richard was honored to have served Walker County as Justice of the Peace for Precinct 2 since December 2006. Richard was a member of the First United Methodist Church and very active in the community and involved in many clubs and organizations including: Forest Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. 19, Walker County Fair Association as an Executive Director and a member of the Rodeo Committee, Elkins Lake Community Association, Huntsville Bass Masters, American Legion, Huntsville Lions Club, Huntsville Optimist Club and MOAA. He has also served on many boards and committees. Richard was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He mentored many children through school programs. The time Richard spent with family and friends are the times he was the happiest. He never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a hand whenever it was needed. He is survived by the love of his life for 27 years, Katy. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Korgan of Evans, Colo.; his aunts, Jeannie Stewart of Windsor, Colo., Sandra Lance of Evans, Colo.
