Research finds protein to restore hair color!
If you’re like me in Atlanta, you’re rather excited about the new research that’s being done into the greying of hair as we enter our middle ages, for some of us, by the time we reach age 25!
Scientific research may have gotten to the root of the grey hair problem that plagues humanity!
In a series of experiments, U.S. researchers say that they may have identified a protein found in hair that they have called “wnt” which may be vital to the production of color in hair follicles.
The scientific breakthrough would allow the addition of wnt into hair grooming products as well as a supplement that could potentially raise levels of wnt that would naturally restore grey hair to its natural color.
Wnt may also be vital for hair growth, suggesting that a treatment that keeps hair dark would give the added advantage of also stopping it from thinning and turning brittle.
Naturally, such an enhancing treatment would be a boon to both men and women who would no longer need to artificially dye their locks only to grow out in about six weeks for a need of a regular touch up exposing one to chemicals if natural dyes like henna are not used.
, the American researchers prove that the protein starts a chain of reactions which lead to stem or “mother” cells in the scalp maturing and producing the pigment that gives hair its color. However, New York University's Langone Medical Centre, has yet to prove what exactly causes our hair to grey.
Previous research had shown that wnt is also responsible for the production of new hair follicles.
The protein wnt may not be the only substance to blame for greying tresses, as British researchers say that the use of too much bleach in dying products will do that as well.
As suspected, genetics also play a significant role in when our hair loses its pigment as much as excessive hair coloring, stress, alcohol, smoking and poor diet do!

Hair dye is less dangerous for clients than for stylists, who have the greatest exposure to the chemicals. Still, the use of dark, permanent dyes for more than 25 years has been linked to a higher risk of lymphoma, a kind of blood cancer.
