Methodist planning medical-office building near downtown San Antonio

The multimillion-dollar project will be developed on nearly three acres of real estate situated along Interstate 35 between McCullough and Brooklyn avenues — near Metropolitan Methodist Hospital.

The 35,500-square-foot structure, set to open in 2012, will be owned by Methodist Healthcare.

The first major tenant will be Broadway Bank , which Methodist says plans to open a 5,000-square-foot Downtown Banking Center in the new building.

Additional space will be leased to physicians who practice in the center city area.

Stakeholders say the project will have a significant impact on the community, stimulating more economic activity in the core of the city.

Officials with Methodist and Broadway Bank say more details about the planned development, including design elements and development costs, will be revealed during the ground-breaking ceremony on Tuesday.
